Local physicians unite to bring a new approach to healthcare in their community

A group of local physicians have announced their plans to open a new specialty medical center with a patient-centered approach to healthcare. The physicians from established local private practices —Hope Medical Group, Pensacola Urology, and Radiation Oncology —have joined forces to create Woodlands Medical Specialists.

"Woodlands Medical Specialists is unique in that it is completely owned by physiciansfrom the Pensacola area" says Linda D'Amore, CEO of Woodlands. "The physicians will have the ability to make patient care their highest priority".

Woodlands Medical Specialists will open their main facility, The Woodlands Center for Specialized Medicine, in December, 2009, on North Davis Highway. The new 76,000 sq. ft. facility will span 3 stories and feature state-of-the art technology, all designed to create an unparalleled patient experience "The physician group has designed this facility to provide a full continuum of care and services to the patient. This model is designed to offer one-stop outpatient services in a timely, caring, and cost-sensitive manner" stated D'Amore. In addition to the new central facility on North Davis highway, Woodlands Medical Specialists will operate satellite facilities in Gulf Breeze, Foley, Brewton, and on the West Florida Hospital Campus. Until the December 1st opening of The Woodlands Center for Specialized Medicine, the physicians will continue to operate in their respective practice locations under the Woodlands Medical Specialists name. D'Amore also clarified that the physicians will continue to provide full service to their patients at all four area hospitals, including Sacred Heart, Baptist, West Florida, and Gulf Breeze.

The idea for Woodlands Medical Specialists emerged from local physicians who have an energetic spirit and a deep commitment to provide a more innovative approach to healthcare delivery. Dr. Thomas Tan, an area physician in the Hematology-Oncology division of Woodlands Medical Specialists, says the group has a strong patient-centered vision, "Patients deserve quality treatment that's personal, yet cost effective. The Woodland Medical Specialists healthcare team seeks to deliver a better healthcare experience that provides exactly that". Dr. Tan pointed to the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville as a model for Woodlands, citing their success in developing innovative techniques. "The Mayo Clinic is often the gold standard for healthcare, as they continuously develop new operational procedures that create a superior healthcare experience. We're striving to give patients that same level of care in the Pensacola area."

Dr. Frank Greskovich, a physician in the Urology division of Woodlands Medical Specialists, added that shorter diagnostic test turn-around time is one such step that Woodlands Medical Specialists is taking. "Our goal is to get the patient on the road to recovery as soon as possible. With full-service labs located in The Woodlands Center, we'll be able to run critical tests and receive the results in a shorter amount of time."

The opening of Woodlands Medical Specialists is also creating much-needed jobs for Pensacola in a time of tough economic circumstances. "From an economic development standpoint, Woodlands Medical Specialists is a great addition to Pensacola. From construction of the building to the staff hired to run The Woodlands Center for Specialized Medicine, we're providing much needed jobs to the area" stated D'Amore. The Woodlands Center for Specialized Medicine is expected to create 25 new jobs upon opening in December, with additional positions opening up as the expansion continues throughout 2010.

Woodlands Medical Specialists will initially open with 3 outpatient specialty areas: Hematology-Oncology, Radiation Oncology, and Urology. Over the next year, Woodlands Medical Specialists plans to expand into other outpatient specialties.
