Woodlands now seeing patients in state-of-the-art facility

December 3, 2009

The physicians of Woodlands Medical Specialists proudly announce the opening of their new 76,000 sq ft facility, The Woodlands Center for Specialized Medicine. The new facility is located at 4724 N. Davis Highway in Pensacola, and features 3 floors designed to create a positive healthcare experience.

"We have designed every square inch of this facility around patient comfort" said Woodlands CEO Linda D'Amore. "You'll notice from the concierge greeting you at the front door to the extra wide hallways, we've placed a high priority on patient comfort." D'Amore went on to cite another such example of making patient comfort a priority: no phones at the receptionists' desks. "We moved all phones to a central room; we want the desk receptionists to focus exclusively on attending to the patients and not to be preoccupied with administrative duties like answering phones".

This philosophy of patient-focused care appears evident in all aspects of the Woodlands. Dr. Thomas Tan, a hematologist-oncologist with Woodlands, believes that the opening of Woodlands has raised the bar for healthcare delivery in the Pensacola area. "Patients are now able to have a similar experience that only would have been possible at larger national facilities, such as Mayo Clinic" he stated. CEO Linda D'Amore added, "We care about providing a quality patient experience. In the past a patient would have to drive from their doctor's office to another facility to have an MRI, and then wait several weeks for those results. We've added convenience by offering all services under one roof, which also drastically reduces the time patients wait for their diagnostic test results, ultimately putting them on the road to recovery faster." D'Amore also added that Woodlands uses the newest available technology, and that they were the third facility in the nation to receive GE's newest PET/CT Scanner. "We really are changing the way patients in Pensacola experience healthcare. I'm confident that our patients will really appreciate the steps we've taken to improve their visit to our center".

Woodlands Medical Specialists is also unique in that it is completely owned and operated by physicians from the Pensacola area. The physicians from established local private practices - Hope Medical Group, Pensacola Urology, and Radiation Oncology — joined forces in May to create Woodlands Medical Specialists. The December 3rd opening of The Woodlands Center now allows them all to provide multi specialty care at their main campus.

Woodlands Medical Specialists will initially open with 3 outpatient specialty areas: Hematology-Oncology, Radiation Oncology, and Urology. Over the next year, Woodlands Medical Specialists plans to expand into other outpatient specialties. In addition to the main center on N. Davis Highway, Woodlands physicians will continue to provide a full range of services at Baptist Hospital, Gulf Breeze Hospital, Sacred Heart Hospital, and West Florida Hospital, as well as in Foley and Brewton, Alabama.
