The Northwest Florida chapter of NAIOP, a national commercial real estate development association, presented their top honor of New Development of the Year Award to the Woodlands Center for Specialized Medicine. The new center, home to Woodlands Medical Specialists, is located on N. Davis Highway in Pensacola and opened its doors to patients in December of 2009.
"We are incredibly excited to receive this honor" said Woodlands CEO Linda D'Amore. "I'm glad that the collaboration among our physicians, the development team of Cogdell Spencer ERDMAN, and the City of Pensacola has been recognized for creating a truly remarkable space". D'Amore believes that the Woodlands Center presented a strong case for the award, given that the team took great care in preserving the natural environment when building the new 76,000 Sq. Ft. facility. Gary Tree, Project Executive at Cogdell Spencer ERDMAN added, "Our team of experts worked together with the City to preserve the land as much as possible. We were even able to save about 70% of the mature trees on the site." Tree went on to mention that Woodlands also reused the few cut trees to craft pens, boxes, and other useful items.
Chapter representatives for NAIOP said Woodlands earned their highest honor because of the building's unique design around the patient experience. With the use of natural materials and a focus on natural light, NAIOP believes the Woodlands Center provides a comfortable and inviting patient experience. In addition, NAIOP officials also agreed that the new Woodlands facility creates a more efficient patient experience, allowing patients to receive several services under one roof including imaging and diagnostic testing. Jack Rowell, President of NAIOP Commercial Real Estate Association, concluded, "This is a beautiful facility and was one of only a few projects of this magnitude that was completed during this difficult time in the commercial real estate world."
The Woodlands Center competed against 7 other properties in the Panhandle to earn the top honor among NAIOP's 96 chapter members. A panel of judges reviewed the information submitted by each property with respect to creativity and innovation, community impact, challenges overcome, and overall success. The award was presented January 28th during NAIOP's Annual Meeting and Awards Presentation at the Sanders Beach Community Center, with over 100 guests in attendance. Honorable mentions for the night included Cox Gulf Coast, Cordova Crossroads, and the Gemmill Learning Center for the Blind. Pensacola Apothecary also won the award for Best Renovation.
