Woodlands Medical Honored with Mayor's Beautification Award

Pensacola Mayor Mike Wiggins is honoring the new Woodlands Center for Specialized Medicine with the Mayor's Beautification Award at this Thursday's City Council Meeting. Mayor Wiggins believes the new 76,000 Sq Ft facility is deserving of the award due to their diligent efforts to minimize their impact on the local environment and preserve the mature trees on site. Wiggins expressed his pleasure with the Woodlands' project, saying "This is the type of effort we want to see in Pensacola. I hope that the Woodlands' construction project will serve as a model for all future projects in Pensacola."

To develop the new center, Woodlands brought in the design experts of Cogdell Spencer ERDMAN with the requirement that they make every effort to maintain the natural landscape. ERDMAN Project Executives hired civil engineers and even an arborist to work around the trees that have been growing on the site for many years. Project Executive Gary Tree stated, "Our team of experts worked together with the City to preserve the land as much as possible. We were even able to save about 70% of the mature trees on the site."

Ed Spears, Neighborhood & Economic Development Administrator for the City of Pensacola, also applauded the efforts of the Woodlands team. "This project really brought together all of the aspects the city focuses on, including job creation, the use of clean technology, and the reuse of property."

The Mayor's award comes just 2 weeks after Woodlands was given the highest honor by the Northwest Florida Chapter of NAIOP, a commercial real estate development association. The regional chapter of NAIOP awarded the Woodlands Center the New Development of the Year Award, citing their unique creation of a patient-friendly—yet environmentally-conscious—building. The Woodlands Center competed against 7 other new developments for the top award.
